This story is one of my favorites to tell. It happened to me years ago, and I’ve told it many, many, times. I like to tell it and I like to be reminded that we are ALL creating, manifesting what we desire, somehow it just works. It is a universal law and one that I have experienced over and over again. We all have, whether we realize it or not, we are always attracting. But this is the story of my first “intentional” attraction, so-to-speak.
I had just finished reading a book by Cheryl Richardson (I don’t recall which one) and she was talking about the “ Law of Attraction” and her first experience with manifesting. Her story was interesting and I was paying attention.
We were driving south on vacation and at this time I had braces on my teeth. We had stopped off at a rest area along the way to have lunch, as we often do. But I had unintentionally buried my toothbrush in my bag and it was at the bottom of the heap, in the trunk. I wasn’t at all interested in unpacking the car just to retrieve my toothbrush. If you’ve ever worn braces on your teeth, you know the last thing you want to do is NOT have your toothbrush handy after eating; I had it ready almost always. I thought, “Well if I at least had a toothpick, that would do.” But I didn’t have a toothpick, nor did I know where I would find one at this middle of nowhere rest area. So I thought, well…if this LOA thing is real, maybe I would be able to “attract” a toothpick.
In Cheryl’s book she describes (as I remember) she was driving down the interstate when she decided to “test” this law. The first thing that came to her mind was a tomato. Although knowing she most certainly would not run across a tomato on the interstate she decided to go with it since it was the first thing that came to her mind. Thirty minutes later guess what happened? A semi-truck drove past her with a picture of a GIANT tomato on the side! I mean really…this is exactly how this works!
I didn’t tell anyone what I was doing, it was my own little experiment. So I headed to the car and began to pillage through every cubby, nook, and cranny in there. I didn’t know if this would qualify as “attracting” since I was digging, but I tore through the glove box, the console, under the seats, inside the door; everywhere there was to look. But nothing; no toothpick. Bummer. Guess it doesn’t work just like “that”.
Disappointed, I headed back to the family and the picnic table, to finish my sandwich. As I went to sit down on the bench I happened to look down at the ground and right under my feet, I could NOT believe my eyes! Surely they were deceiving me! But NO!
There on the ground beneath my feet were not one, but FIVE fully wrapped brand new toothpicks!!!
Are you kidding me!?!?!?!
I started laughing, hooping and hollering, sounding crazy, I’m sure! “What is wrong with you?” they all wanted to know. O.M.G.!!! I cannot believe this! And I began to tell them my story. I don’t think they were as impressed as I was, but realizing, myself, what had just happened…I was stoked, AND changed! From that moment on I have always believed in the law of attraction, and you can be sure I do know that what we create/manifest/attract is indeed what we’re give our attention too. Give your attention to good things!
In fact, years later I had a similar experience at work. I was on second shift at the time and had a piece of food stuck in my tooth; it was hurting and driving me nuts. I literally said to myself, “well, you’ve manifested a toothpick before, let’s see if you can do it again”. So off I went, headed to the break room. When I got there though, the cafeteria was closed and gated off but the tables were still available to use. And don’t you know on the very first table inside the door, just waiting for me to find it, was again a fully wrapped, brand new toothpick.
Now, I’m not going to say that it always works this quickly…but I’m not going to say it doesn’t, either.
Remember…You see what you look for. Look for good things (or toothpicks) and be deliberate with the life you create.
PEACE
